Lyseonpuiston lukio is the oldest upper secondary school in Finnish Lapland; it is situated in the center of the city of Rovaniemi. The school offers teaching in Finnish for the national upper secondary school programme and in English for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The school celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2008. The school building, which dates back to the 1950’s, was renovated in 2011.
The IB Programme
Lyseonpuiston lukio started with the IB Programme in 2001 as the partner school of Oulun Lyseon lukio, launching distance teaching in the International Bacccalaureate schools. Oulun Lyseo still provides distance teaching to Lyseonpuiston lukio through video conferencing. Lyseonpuiston lukio became an independent, authorized IB school in 2004. More information about the school and the development of the IB Programme can be found at www.ibo.org.
The IB section of Lyseonpuiston lukio comprises three grades: a preparatory year (preDP), the first IB year (IB1) and second IB year (IB2). After the IB2 year the students take part in the worldwide IB examinations, which, if successfully completed, make them eligible for the award of the IB Diploma. The school accepts students through an entrance test in April. If you would like more information, please contact the IB Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or +358 40 7381837.
